Dear 2B Families,

Our week at school has flown by. I am continually impressed by the behavior of each student in our class. This week we have been discussing the three ways to read a book: read the pictures, read the words, and retell the story. Next week, we will be working on choosing “Good Fit” books or books each individual student can read, understand, and is interested in, which they will read during the Daily 5 time in class. As many of you may remember from last year, the Daily 5 is a way of structuring the reading block so every student is independently engaged in meaningful literacy tasks, which help foster children who love to read and write. They will be spending most of their time actually reading, which research supports as the number one way to improve reading. In math, we have been brushing up on many skills learned in first grade and revisiting any information we may need a refresher on.

Important Information:

Homework: The first homework packet will be sent home today. The homework tasks will vary slightly from week-to-week, but typically consist of reading, math, and spelling word practice. Please let me know if the homework is taking too long or if you have any questions. I am looking forward to discussing this in more detail at Curriculum Night.

Curriculum Night is Wednesday, September 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall, classroom presentations to follow. I hope to have the chance to meet each of you this night!

P.E. Shoes: Our P.E. days are Mondays and Wednesdays, if you would like to send your student to school in their tennis shoes these days that would be great, otherwise the students do not need a separate pair at school for now. If you sent a pair already with your child, you may notice the pair in their backpack tomorrow. 😊

Have a fabulous weekend!

Blessings,

Ms. Addison Borseth
